Setting Realistic Expectations
One of the things I always run into when dealing with fundraising events is unrealistic expectations. Whether it’s the amount of money to be raised, number of people in attendance, or method of getting your message across, it’s really important to have a meeting with your stakeholders early-on to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
In this day and age there are events every night of the week (and sometimes multiple a night), so setting your goals from the start will really help to ensure success. Most fundraising events do not make any money until the 3rd year, so it’s really an investment to start something new. Educating your volunteers on the process and vision will set them up for success instead of failure. So much work goes into planning events, and if that’s the route you take, be sure everyone has a clear picture of what goes into it from the start.
