Finding the Silver Linings during Unprecedented Times
What a weird year this has been! And that's saying a lot considering the work event planners do. I thought I had seen it all while planning events in San Francisco and New York City, but this year takes the cake (literally, there's like, no cake!) when it comes to planning events in the middle of a pandemic.
In the beginning, I was like everyone else, and I had no idea what I was going to do. Luckily, I was forced to figure things out quickly because I had 6 clients, all in different phases of planning their events. Some postponed, some went virtual, but none of them cancelled, which shows that these nonprofits really persevered when it came to connecting with their donors.
Out of this insanity has come so much creativity, and that is really the only professional silver lining I can find. It's a big one though. I have been forced to think outside the box (outside the venue, the caterer, the everything), and that has led to so many new ideas, ones I never would have thought of had we not been in this situation. Virtual events are not ideal, but they do lend themselves to really innovative ways to connect with people. Whether it's a Big 10 band performance, local celebrities reading a book to inspire kids, or creating a song video that sends chills down your spine, I have not stopped innovating/creating this entire time.
I hope you all have time to celebrate the little wins of the past few months, and we'll all look forward to better times ahead soon!
xoxo
